A: Our experienced and professional team will ensure that your appointments are as beneficial as possible. To assist you we have prepared the following checklist for your first appointment. Please make sure that you bring the following:

• The referral from your doctor
• Any X-Rays, Ultrasounds, MRI’s or Pathology results relating to your current condition.
• A list of your current medications.
• Any questions relating to your condition or possible treatment.
• Your Medicare card and Veterans Affairs card (if applicable)
• Your private health fund details (if applicable)
• WorkCover Patients – it is essential that you bring the name, address and telephone number of your insurer along with your current claim number. If you have not obtained a claim number prior to your first appointment you are responsible for paying for the consultation on the day of your appointment.

A: The decision to have surgery should only be made after discussion with your surgeon. The decision is yours and should not be made in a rush. Make the decision only when you are satisfied with the information you have received and believe you have been well informed.

A: All surgical procedures have risks. While your surgeon makes every attempt to minimise risks, complications can occur. Your surgeon will always outline possible side effects or complications of a surgical procedure. It is important that you have enough information about possible complications to fully weigh up the benefits and risks of surgery.

A: Recovery takes time and depends on the type of surgical procedure that you have had. Some patients will be able to go home on the same day that the surgery is performed while others will need to stay in hospital overnight. For patients that are having large or more complicated procedures a 7 to 10 day stay may be necessary.
